"you are here"

like maps tell us where we are on a campus or in a shopping mall that we may orient ourselves better, i sometimes wish we had a "you are here" sign indicating to us where we were, do you know what i mean? microsoft just came out with a live maps release for indian roads (great job, folks!) but unlike with road maps, where you have a predetermined source and destination and they tell you how to navigate your route, there is no such tool in life. we have to create our own.

the question then is - how best can we go about creating our own tool? i think the first thing one could /should do is strive to figure out where one is, in the first place, i.e. in the larger scheme of things. and this involves really studying oneself - looking deeply at our inner self and understanding our strengths and shortcomings. this process must also include respectful and patient acknowledgment of these virtues and vices. only if we allow ourselves to be completely comfortable with our findings can we know that we have understood ourselves in honesty.

once we have learned to understand ourselves, our actions and where they stem from, our beliefs and where those stem from, we can move on to the next step: where do we go from here? more on this later, as i work on articulating my views.
