up the campanile, finally

wednesdays have acquired a special significance for me this semester. one, they symbolize growth on a week-to-week basis, and two, they give me a day free from classes and meetings and a chance to spend it as i will.

this morning, j drove down so i could introduce her to berkeley and the ischool. it was a special meeting, and we talked more today than we had all of last year - about this, that, and everything else. from the upstairs of cafe milano (which she loved), we went on a tour through campus where i shared what i knew about the buildings we saw. this is my third/fourth tour in all of two months, but each feels different and special in its own way (it helps to walk a different route each time). at noon, we found ourselves near the campanile, when the bells started to ring. i had never been up the tower before (in all my years at berkeley) but we decided to explore the option today, and am i glad that we did! we hurried up to catch the carillon player in action. the music was heavenly, i have no words. it was a beautiful clear day, and the view was breath-taking. there were a few other folks up there and we absorbed the experience, connecting with each other in a strange unexplainable fashion. while i did not think to carry my camera with me, thank god for my iphone. below are a couple of pictures that i took up there. (and hang on until the slr gets up there!)

oh, and have i told you that berkeley is beautiful? well, it is. even from 307 feet high up in the tower, the campus seemed to be brimming with life, music, and dance all over. i urge you all to visit and experience it for yourself. you have a tour guide when you need one, i promise!
