oh president!

in reading chapter 3 of the bhagavad gita today, i found verse 21 especially relevant in light of tomorrow's elections:
yad yad ācarati śreṣṭhas
tat tad evetaro janaḥ
sa yat pramāṇaḿ kurute
lokas tad anuvartate
the transliteration: whatever action a great man performs, common men follow. and whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.

may the elected leader be cognizant of this truth, and may he possess the strength to conduct himself in a manner that sets the highest standards for the people.

So true. This power of influence is something that our elected leaders should be highly cognizant of and hopefully use for the highest standards, as you say.

By the way, to an extent this applies to all of us - for each of us is a role model to someone, to youngsters in our families, etc. And so its incumbent on all of us to act, at every step, in a way that will inspire those who look up to us to walk the path of righteousness.
