the next time i organize a conference

  • i will ensure that there are name tags for all participants,
  • that there is a registration desk to house these tags,
  • as well as other items, such as the agenda for the conference.
  • i will not be found absconding on the day of the event,
  • and will return calls of those who try to call me >10 times.
  • i will also not artificially hype the event by advertising multiple honorary guests (e.g. president of india, c.m. of delhi) whose arrival is tbd.
  • i will ensure that the technology pavilion does not leak water onto all the technological products on display (water and technology don't always get along),
  • that tables/booths promised are tables/booths delivered,
  • there is an audience for these booths outside of the booth-owners themselves,
  • and that the distribution of space to participants is equal and just.
  • i won't use projectors if i don't expect people to look at them.
  • if i expect people to look at them, i won't infest the auditorium with enormous sun-like lamps pointing at a ceiling with a hundred lights of its own.
  • i will encourage ppt presentations,
  • and also make sure i look at them first, to see that the font size is large enough to be read by at least the first row.
  • i will not allow floors to be slippery, rain or no rain,
  • nor have more dirt out than in.
  • i will ensure that there is good, clean drinking water on all days of the conference, not just the first!
  • and take away plates of food from those who dare to cut lines.
  • last, but not least, i will serve good quality tea during tea breaks,
  • and not in cups being shared by flies.
