the season of peace

merry christmas, all! it is the season of peace, they say, and i hope this day will bring you much. as i think about peace today, i am reminded of tnh's words - "there is no path to peace. the path is peace." often, we find ourselves thinking "if only this would work out in my life, i would be at peace" or "once this problem resolves itself, i will be at peace", but truly, problems come and go ceaselessly. and happiness, too, is oft fleeting. we need not wait for peace to come tomorrow; we can actively create this peace - in the present. and the more we focus on treading our paths through life in peace, the more permanent it will become. the key is to understand and accept that peace comes out of choice. it is not waiting for us on the horizon, it is already here. we only have to open our eyes to see it.

peace to you all, dear friends.

thanks for sharing. how do we go about creating peace for ourselves in anxiety? in moodiness? in anger? in distress?

I may have already told you this, but am reminded of a bumper sticker I had on my old car that said "There is no way to peace. Peace is the way." So so true.

Miss you! Was glad to have a few moments this morning to steal a glance at your blog. Greetings from Germany!

bb - your questions bring to mind all that i have been reading for the last 4-5 days - tnh's "old path white clouds" - his write-up of buddha's 80 years in considerable loving detail. if i were to be bold enough to give an answer that i believe hails from his teachings, i would say that we create peace regardless. the effort is initiated and sustained. in the midst, all the mental formations (i.e. anxiety, anger, distress etc.) that arise go away with continued practice. as your bumper sticker had it - peace *is* the way.

touched that you had the chance to read :). i miss you too, bff!
